The Burnie Glacier Chalet is a backcountry skiing and mountaineering lodge in Canada that offers all the charm of a European mountain hut, but instead of sharing it with dozens of others, you and your friends can enjoy the best backcountry ski mountaineering Canada has to offer all to yourselves! Deep snow in the winter, soaring peaks in the summer: this is what you are looking for.
The lodge was built with permission from the House of Kwees, Tsayu Clan, Wet'suwet'en First Nation. We are on ground that is rich with Wet'suwet'en history. The lodge is built from solid wood that was cut on our woodlot in the Bulkley Valley. It would not be here if many people had not volunteered their labour and love. Now you can experience this magic.
The lodge sleeps up to eleven guests, two guides, and one cook. There are two bedrooms for two that are good for couples, one bedroom with three and one with four beds. Sleeping bags are not required: we supply fresh linen.
You will eat very well at Burnie. Meals are cooked on the big Amish-built woodstove. Think fresh baking, think delicious snacks and wholesome dinners that energize you for your next day in the mountains.
There is a beautiful wood-fired cedar sauna at Burnie. We also have a hot shower.
You can bring an electronic communication device, but we ask you to restrict its use. The internet access is for weather forecasts and for taking part in the infoex, which is part of our daily avalanche forecast. Use the time to talk to your friends face to face! Play music! But you can certainly call home ur upload pictures on facebook. You can charge batteries for your camera.
You can also be certain that no snowmobiles or heli-skiing will interfere with your experience. Our operating area is legally designated as non-motorizedÂ. We operate in a Class A Provincial Park and strive hard to minimize our impact on the land.
And the best part: we are easy to access. Fly into Smithers on Air Canada or Hawkair and ski the same day!
